The ratings for the triple bill episodes continued to fall from 524,000 to 414,000 viewers, and on 28 March 2019, the triple bill pulled in a series low of 383,000 viewers and ranked 14th for the night. April 2019 saw a slight rise in the viewing figures; the first episode of the month drew in 740,000 viewers and ranked 9th for that night. While passing through Graydon Prison reception, Lewis notices his former colleague Jasmine Delaney. He tells her that he is an agency nurse and is currently working in the prison infirmary. He then invites Jasmine to get a coffee with him sometime, which she accepts.
Brax later returns to the jail with Casey and Heath begins an appeal to free Danny. He turns up in Summer Bay and Brax allows him to spend the night at his house. Danny later moves into the caravan park and befriends Marilyn Chambers . Danny tells Brax that he wants his money back and starts playing games with him. Danny invites Marilyn out to dinner, while some guys that he hired knock Brax out and leave him in the bush. When Casey confronts his father, Danny manages to lie his way out of it.

The character made an unannounced departure on 8 July 2020, as she returned to New Zealand to scatter the ashes of her husband Mikaere. The serial's UK broadcaster Channel 5 later confirmed that the episode was Gemma's last, while Peters also confirmed the news on her social media and paid tribute to the producers for introducing Māori characters to the show. Stephanie McKenna of The West Australian thought the New Zealand trip would end badly, writing "it's the happiest Gem has been in a long time and she has a beaming grin. But of course, it wouldn't be Home and Away if nothing bad happened." Kyle Braxton, played by Nic Westaway, made his first screen appearance on 8 August 2012. Digital Spy's Daniel Kilkelly reported that Lincoln Younes had been tweeting about Westaway joining the cast and revealed that he had been listed as a Home and Away series regular on his agency profile. He added "The page names his character as Kyle Braxton, so it seems that recent arrival Danny won't be the last addition to the family!" In September, Kyle kidnaps Casey Braxton and holds him hostage in the desert.
Nikau ends up punching Ryder after he tries to warn Nikau about Jade. Following a day getting to know each other, they share a kiss on the pier, but face disapproval from Dean Thompson (Patrick O'Connor). Natalie is a school counsellor, who helps Sasha Bezmel and Casey Braxton . A writer for Channel 5 said she would "have her work cut out for her" due to the amount of teen drama in Summer Bay. Mack described her character as having "a very selfless quality and determination to help others that I really admire." She stated that Natalie "is passionate and strong", but she does have flaws. Mack added that Natalie went through some tough times as a teenager, which forced her to grow up quickly.

However, Taylor feels that her husband has been neglecting her, so she has an affair with his suspect Colby Thorne . Stephenson told Kerry Harvey of Stuff.co.nz that she and Franklin were old friends and they had often joked about how funny they would find working together as an on-screen couple. Owen visits Summer Bay on a whim and is spotted by Ryder Jackson and Alf Stewart in the surf club.
Henri is a substitute teacher, who gets a job at Summer Bay High. In late January 2012, it was announced an "old flame" of Heath's would arrive in the Bay and cause April Scott to fear she will lose him. Henri and Casey kiss twice, which leaves the audience wondering whether "a full-blown teacher-pupil relationship" could be about to happen. The actress originally recorded an audition tape for the serial in 2019 while she was living in Italy, but she did not get the role.

The casting and character details were confirmed by Women's Day on 17 August 2020. Owen is the estranged twin brother of Evan Slater, also played by Daddo. He said he was "thrilled" when they pitched the character of Owen to him. Mack revealed to Luke Dennehy of the Herald Sun that the role of Natalie "came out of the blue". Alan is visiting his son in the hospital, when he runs into Sid Walker, the man who beat Stu up for physically abusing his daughter.
Natalie encourages Casey to talk to her and he opens up about his father. She tells him to meet his father if he wants to, but his brother, Brax, asks Natalie not to interfere in their lives. Natalie grows concerned for Casey when his father, Danny , is released from prison. Natalie grows closer to Brax, prompting him to tell her about Danny's violent past. Jett James' foster mother, Gina Austin , asks Natalie to counsel him after his biological father rejects him.

A few weeks later, Harvey turns up on Mel's doorstep and reveals that his relationship with Roo is over. In 2019, Home and Away returned at the later date of 18 February, after the summer series of cricket concluded. Pippa Doyle of 96FM reported that declining ratings in 2018 and Seven's decision to push the show back had created doubt about its future on the network, and whether or not a timeslot change or a move to a multichannel was likely. Evan Slater made his first appearance in May, while Amber Simmons was introduced in July. Evan's brother Owen Davidson made his first appearance in August. September marked the arrivals of Taylor Rosetta and Christian Green.
Sid apologises and tells Alan that there has been too much violence already. Alan later confronts Sasha Bezmel about sending naked pictures to boys and her accusations against Stu. Alan comes to the Walker's home and offers Sid a deal; drop the charges against Stu or have the police arrest him for assaulting him at the hospital. When Stu is found dead, Alan is questioned by the police over his behaviour towards his son.
When Mel returns, she and Harvey start fighting for custody of Lottie. Mel threatens to reveal the truth about Ben's death and Harvey backs down. Roo later goes to see Mel and she explains that Harvey was drunk when Ben died during a boating accident. Lottie tells Mel that she wants to stay in Summer Bay, but when she realises that Mel will be alone in the city, she changes her mind.
They tell him about his resemblance to Ryder's recently deceased father Evan Slater and convince him to come home with them, where he meets Ryder's aunt Roo Stewart. Owen decides to stay in the Bay to learn more about his family history and later discovers that he and Evan are twins, who were separated at birth and adopted. Owen asks Ryder and Roo to tell him all about Evan and Ryder lends him Evan's guitar, so he will feel a connection to his brother. Upon returning to the caravan park, Owen has tea with Roo and they talk about Evan, but she becomes overwhelmed and leaves. She later asks Owen out for a drink and opens up about how she was with Evan when he died and the shock she felt when Owen showed up in the Bay.
They talk about their past, but are interrupted by April Scott. Henri comes to Bianca and tells her April failed to do something for an assignment due to her boyfriend. April becomes upset with Henri when she receives a bad mark and accuses her of being jealous of her and Heath. Casey Braxton confides in Henri about an incident that he was involved in while in juvenile detention. Heath comes to Henri after an argument with April and they have sex.
When Owen eventually turns up, Roo tries to avoid him and he realises that her family dislike him. Roo admits that she did not say anything and they have come up with their own conclusions. Roo struggles to talk to Owen, leaving him frustrated and he storms off. He later apologises and asks if Roo wants to work through things and Roo admits that she wants that too. Roo and Owen spend some intimate time together and try to work out their relationship, but Owen believes Roo is still in love with Evan.
